This is Bleeding Heart Yard, supposedly named after "an old and gruesome tale"
involving Lady Hatton, second wife of Sir William. The story goes that after breaking
a pact she had made with the devil, Lady Hatton's body was found torn limb from limb
in the yard, her heart still beating. Years later, the yard was used by Charles Dickens
in Little Dorrit as the home of his Mr Plornish.
