VICTORIA'S Secret is poised to make its Australian debut following in the footsteps of Gap and Spanish retailer Zara.
Sydney-based Speciality Fashion Group's chief executive Gary Perlstein yesterday announced the company was in talks to bring the US lingerie giant to Australia through its partnership with Victoria's Secret's parent company, Limited Brands.
"We are developing a very close relationship with them so, hopefully, we can be their licensee here for all their brands," Mr Perlstein said.
"It's very exciting."
The lingerie label that shot Aussie beauty Miranda Kerr and German supermodel Heidi Klum to stardom is famous for its cheeky fashion parades and sexy catalogues promoting its "Angels" dressed in skimpy knickers.
Specialty Fashion, the womenswear retailer behind Katies and Millers, signed a 10-year licensing agreement with Limited Brands last August to run the La Senza lingerie chain in Australia.
Mr Perlstein did not know when the Victoria's Secret deal would be completed, but admitted it would be a coup for Specialty Fashion Group and for Australian women - Victoria's Secret is one of the world's most popular lingerie brands.
International brand names have made a beeline for Australia in the past year, with Gap opening at Chadstone in August and and Zara set to open at Sydney's Westfield Pitt Street Mall in May.
US fashion label Banana Republic also recently announced it was considering operating a store in Melbourne.
