Man uses live grenade as bookend at home-USA

Man uses live grenade as bookend, inevitable happens

Using a grenade as a bookend is not smart, and nor is pulling the pin out and putting it back in.

grenade bookendFor sale: Decorative home ornament with added element of danger.
A Florida man, perhaps sensibly choosing to remain unnamed, was delighted when his next-door neighbour decided to give him a World War II grenade that had been used as a bookend. And who wouldn't be pleased with an explosive slice of history, dated and worn to the point of dangerous instability?
The grenade (we're talking an actual pineapple-shape, cartoon-like one here) had apparently been sitting on the shelf for years, and given the fact that said neighbour still had both arms it had apparently posed no problems.
The recipient, far from placing it on a stable surface with care, promptly decided to pull the pin out and put it back in again.
Quickly realising that if kept in the house the grenade may cause a mild case of death the man from Florida placed the explosive in his garden (sorry, wildlife) and called the bomb squad.
On arrival they were forced to safely detonate the grenade, leaving a two-foot crater in the earth - the squad are reported to have had a bla... oh forget it.
Note: Grenades are not decorative ornaments and were not designed to prop up literature.
