Motorist fined millions after landing 3,030 traffic tickets.



TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A motorist who failed to pay nearly NT$8 million in traffic fines has had NT$1 million taken directly from his paychecks by the court, the Taipei City Traffic Adjudication Office (TAO) said  yesterday.

The motorist, a male engineer working in the Hsinchu Science Park, received 3,030 traffic tickets in total, 90 percent of them for the unauthorized use of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system on the nation's highways. He consequently ran up a staggering NT$7.87 million in traffic fines and extra penalties after refusing to pay the fines over the course of several years.
